canal42 Chirk Aqueduct
On Tuesday night, we moored very close to the entrance to Chirk Aqueduct. That evening we walked up to take a look at our approach the next morning. The aqueduct takes you across the River Ceiriog (we believe it is pronounced "KARE-og"). The taller structure is a newer railroad bridge, constructed to be taller to show the "supremecy of railroads to canals." Ha! The 70 foot high aqueduct was built between 1796 and 1801 by Thomas Telford and William Jessop.
