Lift
Bridge The modus operandi was for Mary Ellen to get off the boat, use the windlass to raise the bridge, and then I'd drive through. It is common courtesy to leave the bridge in the down position after going through so that cars can cross the canal when no boaters are around. Generally, the bridges were easy to raise and lower thanks to the clever counterweight system. |
