This is a good illustration of the elbow grease required on the canals. These gates are massive timbers and some of them can be a bit difficult to swing open and closed. Still, most of the locks can be operated by two able-bodied individuals, one to operate the locks and the other to drive. We placed three in that category, so had no problems operating the locks and lift bridges we encountered on the trip.
