DAY 3: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22, 2005
(Cropredy to Aynho Wharf)

I read L.T.C. (Tom) Rolt's book "Narrowboat" while planning this trip. Canal enthusiasts know that the book, published in 1944, was largely responsible for the revival of the British waterways after World War II. The book tells of Rolt's efforts to outfit a boat ("Cressy") at Tooley's Boatyard in Banbury in order to travel and write about the declining canals of England. The book captured the imagination and created a sense of nostalgia that led to the establishment of the "Inland Waterways Association" (IWA).
